Chavon D. Carr, JD

Chavon D. Carr’s deep commitment to improving quality of life through community revitalization has led to a decade-long career rooted in real estate. She boasts extensive experience in probate and real estate law, assisting families in the planning and administration of estates.

A graduate of Spelman College, Carr earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a concentration in Business Management. She went on to earn her Juris Doctorate with a certificate in Health Law, from the Saint Louis University School of Law in St. Louis, Missouri. 

Carr began her law career in Houston, Texas in 2006. She joined the Houston Metropolitan Transit Authority (METRO) as a US right of way attorney. Her efforts led to METRO acquiring more than 100 commercial and residential properties and provided litigation management for properties resulting in condemnation.  In 2011, Carr joined Sadler Law, LLP as an associate attorney, marking her transition to the law firm sector. There Carr analyzed complex probate and real estate title issues for exploration and production companies and prepared title opinions for drilling, division orders, financing, and acquisitions. Carr then moved on to the transactional energy group of Steptoe & Johnson, PLLC, one of the country’s top energy law firms. 

In 2015, Carr entered the entrepreneurial realm and launched Carr + Associates focusing her practice on probate and real estate law, assisting families in the planning and administration of estates. Her clients include real estate developers, investors and community development corporations, and nonprofit organizations seeking to advance their missions and goals. 

Civically, Carr is engaged in strengthening communities through legal knowledge. She is a board member for the Texans YMCA; William A. Lawson Institute for Peace and Prosperity; One Delta Plaza Education Center;  Lawson Academy Real Estate Co., a nonprofit organization designed to oversee the acquisition of real or personal property for use in the furtherance of the charitable purposes of  the William A. Lawson Institute for Peace and Prosperity; and Northern Third Ward Planning Committee as well as the  president of Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church Legal Ministry. She has been an organizer and participant for Will Day which has provided over 600 free wills for members of the greater Houston area. She has also served on the MLK Council to plan and implement strategies for the revitalizing of the MLK center.

She holds memberships in the Texas Bar Association Probate and Real Estate Section, the State Bar of Texas Pro Bono College which recognizes attorneys who have far exceeded the State Bar’s aspirational pro bono goal in their efforts to address the vast unmet legal needs of the poor, and the Houston Bar Association Probate and Real Estate Section. Carr is a recipient of an award for the Top Attorney of North America, 2017 Edition. She has also received the 2016 Iota Pearl of Service Award from Iota Phi Lambda Sorority and was a candidate for the 2017 Woman of the Year for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society after raising $50,000 for a cancer research grant named in honor of her deceased mother, Ada D. Carr.
